How Deferred Gifts Are Used

The 1847 Society

The purposes of deferred gifts vary widely. Gifts may support student scholarships and awards, professorships, visiting lectureships, research and equipment funds, faculty development funds, and other uses vital to the University's continued exellence.

Undesignated gifts are especially valuable, and can be directed to an area of greatest need, providing an important source of future strength. Many contributors with a vision of the future have created unrestricted endowment funds through a deferred gift to benefit their favorite UI college, department, or program. For more information about these unrestricted gifts, see the Iowa Impact Fund section of this website.
