What Gifts Have Done in the Past
Private support has enabled the University of Iowa Museum of Art to serve the UI and the state of Iowa by acquiring new works of art, offering community outreach and educational programming, renovating facilities, and more. Here are just a few examples of how gifts have helped the museum fulfill its mission:
- Gifts from local businesses each year support educational outreach activities for students and community members of all ages, help underwrite exhibitions, and more. The Museum's support for educational outreach activities comes from US Bank and Scheels All Sports.
- The late Katherine M. Zastrow, who graduated from the UI with a B.A. degree in 1926, donated works of art valued at more than $100,000 to the museum. Included in her bequest were works by Grant Wood, Grandma Moses, and Marvin Cone.
- Richard H. Stanley, who received an M.S. degree in civil and environmental engineering from the UI in 1963, and his wife, Mary Jo Stanley, made a gift in 1999 of $43,000 to support acquisition and development efforts for the world-renowned Stanley Collection of African Art. The Stanley Collection was given to the museum in the 1980s by Richard's parents, the late C. Maxwell and Elizabeth M. Stanley. The Stanley family is from Muscatine, Iowa.
