What Gifts Have Done in the Past
Through the generosity of loyal alumni and friends, the Henry B. Tippie College of Business can reach peak performance in all that it does. The power of private giving helps the college fund everything from endowed chairs to experiential learning. Here are a few examples of gifts that have helped the Tippie College maintain its competitive advantage:
- Iowa natives Lloyd J. Palmer (1949 B.S.C.) and Thelma Palmer (attended the UI from 1944 to 1946) of Burr Ridge, Illinois, contributed $1 million for distinguished faculty fellowships in the Tippie College of Business that will provide salary support and allocations for research-related expenses for promising faculty.
- The estate of the late Zella Cleveland, of Ocean Ridge, Florida, gave almost $500,000 to create the James and Zella Cleveland Scholarships in the UI Tippie College of Business. The need-based scholarships provide crucial financial aid to students in good academic standing.
- A $2.5 million commitment from Stanley M. Howe -- a Muscatine, Iowa, native who is chairman emeritus of HON Industries and a former visiting professor in the Tippie College Executive-in-Residence program -- established the Stanley M. Howe Distinguished Professor of Leadership, a position dedicated to teaching graduate students in outreach centers around Iowa.
These are just several examples of the generosity that has helped the Tippie College of Business joined the ranks of the top 30 public business schools in the nation.
