When Kimberly Smith heads to her first post-college job at an accounting firm in Miami, she'll look back on her college years as a time filled with rich opportunities.
Kimberly came to the UI from Burlington, Iowa, planning to study accounting. The Henry B. Tippie College of Business's reputation attracted her -- and her Opportunity at Iowa Scholarship and Henry B. Tippie Accounting Scholarship made it affordable for this eager and talented young Iowan to attend her state's flagship university.
In her time at Iowa, she's had access to excellent educational and career-development tools, many of which were supported by annual private gifts.
"There are always resources available," says Kimberly. "The computer labs and business library are great."
Through the college's Career Center, Kimberly was able to land key internships at McGladrey and Pullen LLP, which boosted her marketability as an accounting professional.
Most important, she learned from great faculty and enjoyed enriching experiences, like being part of the Multicultural Business Student Association.
Because Kimberly has seen firsthand the benefits of private support for students like herself, she looks forward to giving back to her alma mater one day in return.
"People have invested in me," Kimberly points out. "Hopefully, someday I'll be able to do the same."
