A Message from
University of Iowa President David J. Skorton
Throughout my years at The University of Iowa, I have seen firsthand the power of private support. Gifts to the UI have changed the lives of everyone from students, staff, and faculty to alumni and friends.
The UI community is nearing the end of an important journey: our $1 billion fund-raising initiative, Good. Better. Best. Iowa: The Campaign to Advance Our Great University. This journey’s destination, however, isn’t just a dollar goal.
This campaign is allowing the UI to support and serve our students, our faculty and staff, the state of Iowa, and people far beyond our borders in a way befitting those who aspire to become their best.
We need every one of the University’s alumni and friends to join together in helping us fulfill our goals before the campaign’s end. Every gift counts because every gift, no matter the size, can help the UI in its mission of education, research and creative endeavor, and service.
I was among the first in my family to complete college. I could not have done so without financial assistance from my alma mater’s alumni and friends. Their generosity instilled in me a lifelong commitment to educational access and to opening doors for others -- the most important legacy of Good. Better. Best. Iowa.
I hope that in the final months of 2005 -- and in the years to come -- alumni and friends will continue to help the UI reach our dreams. I thank you for the generosity that you have always shown us.
At the UI, we are privileged to live the life of the mind, to use the tools of scholarship and creativity, and -- especially during the UI’s Year of Public Engagement (2005-2006) -- to realize their transforming effects on the world.
It is my distinct honor to be part of this collective journey, during this campaign and beyond. I encourage you to join me.

"This has been my University for more than 20 years; since joining the UI faculty in 1980, I have developed a deep and abiding love for the place, the people, and the unlimited potential that I see all around us.
Please join us in these final months of our Good. Better. Best. Iowa campaign and accept my personal challenge to exceed our goals by the year 2005. Working together, the best is yet to come."
