To be our best, we must be bold. To remain a top public university, we must have vision. That means the UI needs to invest in cutting-edge research, fund new initiatives, and maintain forward-looking programs across campus.

These are not educational "extras." Ultimately, the data from our labs, the creativity from our classrooms, and the discoveries from our brightest minds do more than provide outstanding educational opportunities for UI students. They help enrich the lives of Iowans -- and people everywhere.

We must sustain these endeavors through a financial commitment to progress and discovery.

• Research
  UI faculty and students produce research results with practical, wide-ranging applications in everything from medicine to business and literature to law. These results help the UI better serve the people of Iowa and beyond. However, this work requires costly resources such as research fellowships, advanced laboratories, and updated technology.
• Information Resources
  The UI's Main Library and 11 branch libraries across campus reach more than 2 million users -- including students, faculty, alumni, and scholars -- each year. To continue meeting these patrons' educational needs, the UI Libraries system must build its collections, enhance its educational projects, and keep pace with the latest information-sciences technology.
• Arts and Culture
  From Jackson Pollock to the Joffrey Ballet, the University feeds the soul through outstanding art. To maintain the quality of these arts experiences, the University must increase its resources for the Museum of Art, Hancher Auditorium, and other arts-related programs and projects that enhance quality of life for all Iowans.
• Campus Environment
  Campus beautification is an ongoing priority for any top-notch university. Some of the projects the UI hopes to fund include preservation of the Old Capitol and its surroundings, special landscaping across campus, and enhancement of the Iowa River environment.

Why now? This is a pivotal moment for The University of Iowa. We stand at the threshold of many breakthroughs -- in everything from finding new treatments for cancer and other diseases, to mapping the human brain, to designing a digital book.
