What Gifts Have Done in the Past
Gifts to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) enable the center to provide the first-rate patient and family care, research, and educational services befitting one of the nation's top cancer centers. Here are a few examples of how private giving has helped HCCC do its best work:
- As part of the landmark $25 million gift naming the center, the Roland and Ruby Holden Foundation of Williamsburg, Iowa, established the Holden Chair in Cancer Biology in the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. The endowed chair, which has not yet been filled, will provide support for a faculty member in the college who will work with HCCC to advance education and research in the field of cancer biology.
- John and Mary Pappajohn of Des Moines -- two of the University's most generous contributors -- gave $1 million to endow the John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center in the UI Hospitals and Clinics, which provides highly specialized cancer care employing the latest technology and therapies.
- Professor Margaret N. Keyes of Iowa City, a member of the center's Advocacy Board, made a significant and generous planned estate gift to HCCC to provide ongoing endowed support for cancer research.
