The University of Iowa College
of Dentistry
At the University of Iowa College of Dentistry,
talented students come from across Iowa and beyond to learn the
art and science of modern dentistry from top classroom and research
faculty. The highly ranked college, one
of only two schools in the nation that provide advanced
education in all dental specialties, is the second oldest dental
school west of the Mississippi River and the only one in Iowa.
Graduating 70 D.D.S.
students per year from 10 departments,
the college offers state-of-the-art facilities, including:
A simulation clinic
A bench lab
Individual operatories
A study laboratory
Technologically advanced classrooms
Other educational amenities creating an unparalleled environment
of innovation, inquiry, and instruction.
Students
are encouraged to integrate scientific knowledge, technical
expertise, and problem-solving and treatment-planning skills in
the service of advancing the care of patients and the profession
of dentistry. Approximately 80 percent of Iowa's dentists are
graduates of the college, which supports hundreds of Iowa dentists
each year through continuing education programs.
The College of Dentistry's
commitment to serving the dental-health needs of all Iowans
is exemplified by its Geriatric Mobile Unit, which brings equipment
and expertise to nursing homes and care facilities, and its Special
Care Clinic, which specializes in providing dental care for special-needs
patients. Initiatives like these serve Iowa's communities by helping
those in need and by training tomorrow's dentists in the care
of special and underserved populations.
