When Joshua Everts came to The University of Iowa as a freshman Presidential Scholar in 1999, he already knew he wanted to attend the UI's College of Dentistry.
"It's one of the best dental schools in the country," Joshua explains. "The fact that it's one of only two schools in the nation to provide training in all dental specialties was a big plus."
Earning his B.A. degree in chemistry in just three years, Joshua has gone on to excel in dental school. Not only is he learning the profession hands-on in the college's clinics and simulation lab, he's received a Dental Research Award and is collaborating on research projects with faculty members -- the sort of special opportunity for students that private support helps make possible.
He's also active in the community, speaking to students in area schools and at the Iowa Children's Museum about dental hygiene through a program sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry.
Private supporters of the college -- including annual contributors to the Dental Achievement Fund -- are helping Joshua receive an extraordinary dental education, and helping the UI provide top-notch health care providers to the state and society.
"So much goes into getting a great education," Joshua says. "The assistance I've gotten has helped me focus on the academic side of the equation without having to worry about the financial aspects as much. I'm really grateful for that."
