About the University of Iowa College of Engineering

The University of Iowa College of Engineering, ranked among the top 20 percent of graduate and undergraduate engineering programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report, is renowned for its small size and focused mission -- coupled with the resources of a large research university. Talented students come from across Iowa and around the country to learn from dedicated faculty in a uniquely interdisciplinary atmosphere.

The college consists of six disciplines that work closely together to foster interdisciplinary exploration:

The college also features these leading-edge research centers and institutes:

  • The Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology
  • The Center for Computer-Aided Design
  • The Iowa Institute for Biomedical Imaging
  • The Iowa Institute of Hydraulic Research

A distinctive strength of engineering at Iowa is that each of its disciplines has one or more teaching and research linkages to the University's five health sciences colleges -- including shared courses, collaborative research, and joint faculty appointments.
