About the College of Engineering
The University of Iowa College of Engineering serves the state, the nation, and the world by graduating talented, broadly educated engineers; conducting high-quality research; developing breakthrough technologies; and disseminating and preserving technical knowledge. By taking advantage of educational and volunteer opportunities throughout the University, UI engineering students become engineers . . . and something more.
Private support from alumni and friends has transformed the College of Engineering into the exemplary institution it is today. The college's home--the Seamans Center for the Engineering Arts and Sciences--is named in recognition of the generous support of Gary (1971 B.S.E.E.) and Camille Seamans of Galena, Illinois. Some other examples of philanthropy in action in the college include:
- Thousands of annual gifts of all sizes from alumni and friends each year
- 85 privately supported scholarship accounts
- 8 named, endowed faculty positions
- 79 privately supported research and program funds
