UI Foundation Policies on Depositing Gift Funds
All checks and securities appropriately made payable to The University of Iowa Foundation (Foundation), or to any of its accounts, or to activities originated through the Foundation will be deposited at the Foundation.
Exceptions involving checks/securities made payable to a name other than the Foundation that will be deposited at the Foundation are as follows:
- Checks received in Foundation printed return envelopes or in envelopes addressed to the Foundation by the donor. Checks payable to The University of Iowa (UI) where enclosed donor documentation evidences intent to deposit them in the Foundation or to a named Foundation gift account.
- The Foundation has the individual donor's historically documented giving records indicating that support of the area has typically been through the Foundation and has been verified with the donor.
- The Foundation has documented information that a fund raiser has been working with the donor for the specific gift, and verification has been made.
- Checks are memorial/honorary gifts, and a specified Foundation gift account has been established to receive such gifts, with evidence of intent to deposit them at the Foundation.
- Endorsed checks payable to a staff/faculty member for an honorarium, or any other income that was generated by non-UI activity, which qualifies as an outside permissible activity under UI policy.
- All corporate matching gifts are to be deposited in the Foundation. (UI representatives should not process matching gift forms. They should be sent to the Foundation. Corporations have only the Foundation treasurer as the authorized signature for all UI and Foundation matching gifts.)
