About the Graduate College
Working closely with the other University of Iowa colleges, the Graduate College has developed a tradition of access, equality, diversity, and excellence among the graduate student body. This tradition includes many "firsts," including admission of women on an equal basis with men (starting in 1851, only four years after the University was founded).
Working with almost 1,700 faculty across the UI campus, students in the Graduate College are essential to the UI's mission. They perform crucial research and help teach undergraduate students, and are themselves mentored by faculty who prepare them to carry UI distinction into the world.
Private support has been instrumental in the college's success. Some examples of philanthropy in action in the college include:
- Annual gifts of all sizes from alumni and friends each year
- 8 privately supported fellowship accounts
- 31 privately supported research and program funds
