About University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

Consistently listed among "America's Best Hospitals" by U.S. News & World Report, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics provides a superior standard of care for hundreds of thousands of individuals and families from Iowa, the Midwest, and around the world.

UI Hospitals and Clinics is a teaching hospital and is the primary comprehensive health care center for the state of Iowa, promoting the health of all Iowans regardless of their ability to pay.

The hospitals and clinics bring multidisciplinary expertise to more than 200 health care specialties, nine of which rank in U.S. News & World Report's top 50. One important component of UI Hospitals and Clinics, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, is one of fewer than 40 U.S. centers to be given the highest designation by the National Cancer Institute. UI Hospitals and Clinics' Trauma Center, through an extensive accreditation process, has been given a Level I designation for trauma care with pediatric commitment.

Among its many programs, UI Hospitals and Clinics includes these centers of excellence:

  • University of Iowa Children's Hospital -- providing family-centered pediatric clinical services
  • John and Mary Pappajohn Clinical Cancer Center -- the patient-care component of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center
  • Eye Institute
  • Otolaryngology -- Head and Neck Surgery Institute
  • Center for Advanced Reproductive Care -- serving couples experiencing infertility
  • James A. Clifton Center for Digestive Diseases
  • Center for Disabilities and Development (formerly University Hospital School) -- serving infants, children, and adults with disabilities
