Iowa's J.D. program places equal emphasis on developing fundamental lawyer's skills, understanding the roles of the law and lawyers in society, and appreciating the centrality of high ethical standards to professional success.
The college has particular strengths in:

In addition, the National Jurist ranks the college's law library ranks as No. 1 in the country.
Throughout its long history, the college has counted among its graduates and faculty many distinguished members of the federal, state, and tribal judiciaries. The UI produced one of the first women to graduate from any law school in the nation, one of the earliest African-American law school graduates, and the first United States Attorney of Native American ancestry. The college was also a founding member of the Association of American Law Schools in 1929.
