Alex Ingham is going to make the world a better place.
No matter what career he chooses -- perhaps as an international diplomat, a Peace Corps employee, or an English teacher in a foreign country -- Alex knows that an outstanding education from the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) will equip him to make a positive impact in the world.
In addition to his major coursework in political science and international studies, Alex is exploring other disciplines. Studying a wide range of topics from history to film theory, and from Chinese to design for the developing world, Alex is getting a remarkably broad education -- and making important connections in the process.
Alex is learning comprehensive communication and critical-thinking skills that will prepare him to be a knowledgeable citizen of the 21st century and empower him to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
"I chose the UI because I want to learn as much as possible, without limitations," Alex says. "My interests are diverse, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the perfect place to explore them.
"I was impressed with the academic standards here, and getting a Presidential Scholarship helped finalize my decision. It validated my past work, and made me want to continue to excel."
Private support helps provide the resources for Alex -- and other high-caliber UI students -- to do just that.
Gifts to CLAS -- or any of its more than 40 departments, schools, and programs -- help provide support for great professors, access to up-to-the-minute technology, and an ever-changing slate of public lectures, performances, and exhibitions that make the UI campus an exciting place to learn.
"I'm never bored here, and the learning never stops," Alex says.
Thanks in large part to thoughtful and loyal contributors to the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, it never will.
