UIF News: Shaw is named chief financial officer of UI Foundation

Posted December 17, 1999

IOWA CITY -- The promotion of controller and assistant treasurer Tiffani K. Shaw of Iowa City to the position of chief financial officer and treasurer has been announced by Alan Swanson, University of Iowa Foundation senior vice president for development services.

"Tiffani had strong competition in the search process, but her UI experience and especially her nonprofit accounting and compliance expertise were very strong factors in the decision," Swanson said. In her new position, Shaw will oversee the Foundation's financial operations exceeding $580 million in total assets, as well as the budgeting process, gift and tax law compliance and contributor gift agreements. Shaw will serve in the foundation's management group with President Michael New, Vice President for Development Programs Steve Sanders, Associate Vice President for Communications and Campaign Support Susan Shullaw, and Swanson.

Shaw will assist the UI Foundation's Investment Committee in managing the foundation's $435 million portfolio and its $62 million trust portfolio, which support the university's programs, departments and colleges. She will also work with the foundation's volunteer audit committee. Both committees comprise members of the UI Foundation's board of directors who are national leaders in areas such as capital investment, banking, industry, and financial services.

Shaw joined the UI Foundation in 1997 and from 1993 to 1997 supervised the foundation's audits for the accounting firm McGladrey & Pullen, LLP.

A native of Mason City, Shaw received a B.A. degree in accounting from the University of Iowa. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the University Financial Officers Group, consisting of the Big Ten/Big Twelve chief financial officers.

The University of Iowa Foundation, organized in 1956, is the preferred channel of support for private gifts to all areas of the University of Iowa.
