IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Foundation has
announced the promotion of four executive staff members and the hiring
of several to fill standing vacancies or new positions.
The changes reflect increased fund-raising activity on behalf of The
University of Iowa, according to Alan Swanson, the foundation's senior
vice president for development services. "These promotions and staff
additions will enhance our ability to meet the university's growing
need for private support, he said. "And private support plays a vital
role in the excellence for which the UI is widely known."
Changes in the foundation's annual giving department:
- Anthony Arrington, telefund calling center
supervisor since 1998, has been promoted to assistant director of
annual giving programs and will oversee telefund calling center operations.
Under his supervision the 1999 telefund effort set a new solicitation
record, raising over $1 million in gifts. The Cedar Rapids native

communication studies. He was previously program manager of annual
funds for the University of California at Los Angeles.

of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She has worked for the foundation
since 1985. In her prior position as telefund manager, she achieved
substantial growth in its fund-raising capabilities, and was responsible
for spearheading and managing the department's automation. She has
most recently served as an annual giving specialist.
