UI Foundation
announces new fund-raising staff

IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Foundation has
announced the hiring of five executive staff members to fill vacant
or new positions.
"Working with alumni and friends across the country, as well as with
colleagues here on campus, these staff members will help the UI Foundation
maintain its high standards of professionalism and service to the university,"
said Alan Swanson, senior vice president for development services. "We're
very pleased to welcome these talented and experienced individuals to
the foundation team."
Michael Kingan will join the UI Foundation staff as the new director
of development for the College of Liberal Arts. Kingan has most recently
served as assistant dean for development and community relations for
the University of Washington School of Law in Seattle, and was also
a major gifts officer for the University of Michigan Law School. He
received a B.A. degree in political science from Austin College in Texas,
and an M.P.A. degree from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs
at the University of Texas in Austin.
Deborah Dreusicke has been named director of development for the UI
Libraries. She is a graduate of the University of Iowa Law School, and
received both M.B.A. and B.B.A. degrees from the UI's Henry B. Tippie
College of Business. Dreusicke was an import/export compliance specialist
with Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and a law clerk with the
Bryan Cave Law Office in Kansas City, Mo. She will direct fund-raising
efforts for the UI's Main Library and its eleven departmental libraries.
Barbara Schreier is the foundation's new assistant vice president for
Health Sciences Center development. Schreier will supervise fund-raising
efforts for the colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Dentistry, Pharmacy,
and Nursing, as well as for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Schreier has recently served as director of development for the University
of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and as deputy director of the Chicago
Historical Society. She received a B.S. degree in art history from the
University of Vermont and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Florida State
University.
Floyd Akins has joined the foundation as senior director of development
for the Tippie College of Business. Akins came to the UI from Grinnell
College, where he directed that college's major and planned giving efforts
and its capital campaign. He earned an M.A. degree in journalism and
mass communication at the UI after receiving his B.A. degree from Eastern
Illinois University.
Christopher J. Goodale is the foundation's new associate director of
development for the College of Medicine and the College of Public Health.
Goodale will focus on establishing a development program for the College
of Public Health and the College of Medicine's basic science and associated
medical programs. He most recently served as director of alumni and
development for Drake Law School in Des Moines, prior to which he was
director of annual giving for Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa. Goodale
is a graduate of the M.A. program in Journalism and Mass Communications
at Iowa State University, and received his B.A. degree in business management
from Simpson College.
The University of Iowa Foundation is the preferred channel of support
for private contributions to the University of Iowa. Foundation staff
work with alumni and friends to provide resources for facilities improvements,
professorships, student scholarships, research and technology funds
and other forms of support for the UI.
