IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Foundation Board of Directors elected two new directors and one lifetime honorary director, and re-elected eight directors at its fall meeting.

The new directors elected to three-year terms on the UI Foundation board are Andrew W. Code of Hinsdale, Ill., and Casey D. Mahon of Iowa City, Iowa.

Andrew Code

Andrew Code has longstanding ties to the UI. He received his B.B.A. degree in finance from the University of Iowa in 1980 and his M.B.A. degree from the UI in 1981. His parents, Joseph C. and Alberta M. Code of Coralville, Iowa, also are graduates of the university, as is his brother, Kevin. Code's wife, Susan, is a UI graduate as well.

Code is co-founder and partner of Code, Hennessy & Simmons L.L.C., a private-equity firm in Chicago that manages more than $600 million in investments. In addition to his venture-capital business, Code and his wife are involved in residential real estate development.

Loyal supporters of the university, the Codes are members of the Presidents Club, which recognizes the university's most generous contributors. In 1998 they established the Andrew W. Code Scholarship in Business and the Susan K. Code Nursing Scholarship.

A native of Des Moines, Casey Mahon received her B.A. degree in social work from the UI in 1973 and her J.D. degree from Iowa in 1976. Mahon worked for the UI from 1977 to 1986 in key roles for UI Presidents Willard L. Boyd and James O. Freedman. At the time she left the UI, Mahon was associate vice president for finance and university services.

Casey Mahon

In 1986, Mahon began a 12-year career in telecommunications and regulatory law, working for companies such as Teleconnect Company, and its successor Telecom*USA, in Cedar Rapids; MCI Communications Corporation in Washington, D.C.; and McLeodUSA Inc. in Cedar Rapids, where Mahon was senior vice president and general counsel.

Following her retirement from McLeod in 1998, Mahon returned to the UI as a lecturer at the College of Law. She is a member of the Presidents Club, which recognizes the university's most generous contributors, and has served on numerous boards and committees for the UI and the UIF.

The UI Foundation Board of Directors now has 27 elected members. The chair for 2001-2002 is UI College of Law graduate Carroll J. Reasoner of Cedar Rapids, and the co-vice chairs are UI College of Law graduate Charles M. Kierscht of Hinsdale, Ill., and UI business graduate Robert W. Verhille of Solon, Iowa.

The board of directors re-elected eight incumbent members to serve additional three-year terms: David A. Hoak, Marvin A. Pomerantz and John Pappajohn of Des Moines; David J. Fisher of West Des Moines; James C. Hanson of Moline, Ill.; Roger L. Lande of Muscatine, Iowa; Robert W. Verhille of Solon; and Nancy B. Willis of Iowa City.

The board also elected Marian J. Rees of Studio City, Calif., to serve as lifetime honorary director, in recognition of her years of service since joining the board in 1992.

Incorporated in 1956, the UI Foundation is the preferred channel of private support to all areas of the University of Iowa and assists a range of UI programs through its fund-raising activities.

The UIF Board of Directors is responsible for governance of the UI Foundation and provides oversight to ensure that gifts are used in accordance with contributors' wishes and that the confidentiality of donor records is maintained to the extent allowed by law.
