Bendorf, Triplett named to leadership posts at UI Foundation

Posted December 21, 2001

IOWA CITY -- Two veteran staff members at the University of Iowa Foundation have been named to key leadership fund-raising positions there.

Carl Bendorf

Carl J. Bendorf of Iowa City has been named assistant vice president for health sciences center development at the foundation. Bendorf previously was the foundation's assistant vice president for gift planning. Succeeding him in the gift-planning leadership role is David L. Triplett of Iowa City.

Bendorf will supervise a staff of nine development officers in their fund-raising efforts for the UI colleges of medicine, public health, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing, as well as for the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A member of the UI Foundation staff since 1990, Bendorf had been assistant vice president for gift planning since 1999. Since last June he has been interim assistant vice president for health sciences center development.

A native of Amana, Iowa, Bendorf received his bachelor's degree in philosophy from the UI in 1976. He is president-elect of the Eastern Iowa Planned Giving Council, and he has written several journal articles and made numerous presentations locally and nationally on issues in planned giving. He is a graduate of the Iowa City Community Leadership Program, class of 2000.

David Triplett

Triplett will lead the foundation's efforts in estate gifts, life-income gifts, bequests, trusts and other forms of gift planning. A UI Foundation staff member since 1995, Triplett has worked in the gift planning area since 2000. Before that he directed the foundation's fund-raising programs for the UI colleges of Dentistry and Liberal Arts and Sciences, respectively.

Prior to joining the UI Foundation, Triplett was assistant football coach at the UI from 1989 to 1995, head football coach at the University of South Dakota from 1979 to 1989 and assistant football coach at Iowa State University from 1977 to 1979. Triplett earned his bachelor's degree in history and political science from the UI in 1972 and was accepted into the Phi Beta Kappa national honor fraternity. He has served on the parish council of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and on the board of the Iowa City High School Booster Club.

The UI Foundation is the preferred channel for private contributions to all areas of the university. Foundation staff work with alumni and friends to generate funds for scholarships, professorships, facilities improvements, equipment purchases, research and other UI initiatives.
