Dreher named Kelting Dean's Chair in Nursing
Posted February 28, 2002
IOWA CITY -- University of Iowa Provost Jon Whitmore has named UI College of Nursing Dean Melanie Dreher to the Kelting Dean's Chair in Nursing.
The endowed chair, named in memory of the late John C. and Catherine Meeder Kelting of rural Iowa County, was established through the UI Foundation to advance nursing education at Iowa.
Dreher said the appointment offers significant opportunities for the College of Nursing and that she felt honored to be named to the chair.
"With the resources that this chair makes available, the dean's office will be able to support innovative educational programming, research projects and initiatives that serve the state of Iowa, and the nursing profession," Dreher said. "This is an important step forward for our college."
Whitmore said the new chair helps the university fulfill its mission of excellence in education, research and service.
"The UI is always looking for ways to advance the important work we do for Iowa and for our society," Whitmore said.
"This appointment will allow Dean Dreher -- and future deans of the nursing college -- to invigorate Iowa's leadership role in the nursing profession as it undergoes major changes that have profound implications for health care as a whole."
The UI Foundation is the preferred channel for private contributions to all areas of the university. Foundation staff work with alumni and friends to generate funds for scholarships, professorships, facilities improvements, equipment purchases, research and other UI initiatives.
