IOWA CITY -- Elizabeth G. "Libby" Slappey, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has joined the staff of the University of Iowa Foundation as associate director of development for the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Slappey is the newest member of the UI Foundation team that raises private gifts for the UI colleges of medicine, public health, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing, as well as for UI Hospitals and Clinics. Slappey's primary fund-raising duties will be for the internal medicine and ophthalmology departments in the UI's medical school.
A 1974 graduate of Coe College, Slappey was communication and resource director for Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa from 1992 until joining the UI Foundation. Prior to that, she was an account executive with Stein Educational Division and Stamats Communications, and served as development officer for the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art and director of alumni and parent programs for Coe College.
"Libby brings a wonderful range of talents and an impressive breadth and depth of experience to our staff," said Carl Bendorf, the foundation's assistant vice president for Health Sciences Center development. "We look forward to reaping the rewards of her fund-raising abilities for the benefit of faculty, clinicians, students and patients of the UI's health center."
Slappey has been active in community affairs for many years, serving on the boards of directors or in other volunteer leadership capacities for several organizations, including the Iowa Women's Foundation, Five Seasons Senior Housing, the Catherine McAuley Center for Women, Christ Episcopal Church, Episcopal Diocese of Iowa, Planned Parenthood of East Central Iowa and the Junior League of Cedar Rapids.
The UI Foundation is acknowledged by the UI as a preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. Foundation staff work with alumni and friends to generate funds for scholarships, professorships, facilities, equipment, research and other university priorities.
