B100 radiothon benefits patients, families

Posted August 13, 2003

IOWA CITY --B100 99.7 FM radio personalities Missy Sullivan and Jeff James reported this week that they raised $58,109.40 for Children's Miracle Network during the station's 100-hour radiothon Aug. 12-16 at NorthPark Mall in Davenport.

Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. One hundred percent of all donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year, including thousands from eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

"Our listeners never cease to amaze me," James said. "Even with our difficult economy, they pitched in and helped support the patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa."

"We really want to thank our listeners," Sullivan added. "This cause means a great deal to me personally, and we are grateful for this opportunity to help make a real difference in the lives of these wonderful kids and their families."

The radiothon was broadcast live from NorthPark Mall in Davenport. The event kicked off at 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12 and concluded at noon on Saturday, Aug. 16. Sullivan and James shared the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. One hundred thirty-five radio stations and 200 television stations help solicit donations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since its inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2.2 billion for children's hospitals.

Children's Miracle Network reminds everyone who made a pledge recently to send in their donation as soon as possible so it can begin helping children immediately.
