Y105 FM radiothon raises more than $47,000 for Children's Miracle Network

Posted July 1, 2003

IOWA CITY -- Radio personalities Chris Farber and Rachel Redford of Y105 FM raised $47,089 during their second annual 105-hour radiothon to support the Children's Miracle Network June 24-28 at Kennedy Mall in Dubuque.

Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. One hundred percent of all donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 100,000 children receive care at the Children's Hospital of Iowa each year, including thousands from the Tri-state area.

"The radiothon requires a lot of effort, but it's definitely worth it," Farber said. "It's great to see the outpouring of concern for the patients and families at Children's Hospital of Iowa. It's obvious that our listeners are deeply committed to this cause."

"Last year, callers pledged more than $40,000, so to exceed that amount this year during a difficult economy is fantastic," added co-host Redford. "The stories of these patients and their families really touched all of us on a very personal level."

The radiothon aired from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 24-27 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 28. Farber and Redford shared the stories of former and current patients of the Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Each year this network of premier facilities treats more than 14 million children with all types of conditions.

Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since it inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2 billion for children's hospitals. Locally, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $16 million from individuals, corporations, businesses and civic groups in this region and each dollar raised stays at Children's Hospital of Iowa.
