WSUI and KSUI raise $184,000 during spring fund drive
Posted May 8, 2003
IOWA CITY -- Public radio stations WSUI-AM 910 and KSUI-FM 91.7, listener-supported services of the University of Iowa, raised $184,000 through the generous contributions of their listeners.
"The drive is an opportunity to connect with our listeners," said John Monick, director. "It's a time to celebrate what we do here, and how important our listeners are to our team. They make our radio stations thrive."
The spring fund drive culminated in a weeklong on-air campaign April 26 through May 2 where listeners call in and pledge their annual support of the stations. More than 100 volunteers worked throughout the week to answer phones. WSUI/KSUI relies on the semi-annual drives to support almost a third of their annual operating budget.
"We depend on the support of our listeners. Our focus this drive was to reach out to new potential contributors while celebrating the impact of our current donors. They really do make a difference, and showed us again, that they believe in public radio," said Monick.
Building endowments and a Director's Fund for WSUI and KSUI is part of the UI's $850 million comprehensive campaign, which will run through 2005 and is being conducted under the guidance of the UI Foundation. Named Good. Better. Best. Iowa: The Campaign to Advance Our Great University, the seven-year effort is raising private funds to help launch a variety of initiatives across the university, substantially increase the number of UI scholarships and endowed faculty positions, support new educational and research facilities, build the UI's endowment and fund outreach and service programs to benefit Iowans.
The UI Foundation is acknowledged by the UI as a preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. For more information about the Good. Better. Best. Iowa campaign, visit its web site at www.GoodBetterBestIowa.org.
