WSUI/KSUI raises record-breaking $216,000 during fall fund drive

Posted October 30, 2003

IOWA CITY -- Public radio stations WSUI-AM 910 and KSUI-FM 91.7, listener supported services of the University of Iowa, raised an all-time drive high of $216,000 through the generous contributions of its listeners.

"The drive is an opportunity to connect with our listeners," said Kaitlynn Lewis Voigt, marketing manager. "It's a time to celebrate what we do here, and how important our listeners are to our team. They make our radio stations thrive."

The fall fund drive culminates in a weeklong, on-air campaign where listeners call in and pledge their annual support of the stations. Over 100 volunteers worked throughout the week to answer phones. WSUI/KSUI relies on the semi-annual drives to support almost a third of its annual operating budget.

"We depend on the support of our listeners. Our focus this drive was to reach out to new potential contributors while celebrating the impact of our current donors. They really do make a difference, and showed us again, that they believe in public radio," said Voigt.

The UI Foundation is acknowledged by the UI as a preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university.
