IOWA CITY -- Tami Baumann, Darryl Borcherding and Karla Kimerer have joined the staff of the University of Iowa Foundation, bolstering the organization's efforts to maximize private gift support for the University of Iowa.

Baumann and Borcherding, who both joined the UI Foundation's gift-planning staff, will assist alumni and friends who wish to support any area of the UI through estate gifts, life-income gifts, trusts and other forms of gift planning. Baumann is a gift-planning director and Borcherding is an associate director of gift planning.

Kimerer is a director of development for the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Baumann, of Iowa City, was a planned giving officer at Michigan State University before coming to the UI Foundation. She has extensive financial-management experience in the banking industry.

Borcherding, of Cedar Rapids, is a UI alumnus, having received a master's degree in higher education administration from the university in 2002. Before joining the UI Foundation, Borcherding was assistant to the president at Kirkwood Community College, after earlier positions coordinating marketing, development and business operations for PGA of America.

Kimerer, of Iowa City, came to the UI Foundation after serving as executive director of the Library Foundation of Hennepin County, which raises support for 26 libraries in the Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., metro area. She also served as executive director of the Public Library of Des Moines Foundation from 1999 to 2002, and earlier worked for many years directing development and program efforts for the American Diabetes Association.

UI Foundation president Michael J. New said the organization is delighted to welcome Baumann, Borcherding and Kimerer to the staff.

"As we strive to secure crucial gift support for the UI, we need the expertise that Tami, Darryl and Karla bring," New said. "Not only are we at the UI Foundation fortunate to have them on board, but so are UI students and faculty, who will ultimately benefit from their efforts."

The UI Foundation is directing the UI's $1 billion comprehensive campaign, named Good. Better. Best. Iowa: The Campaign to Advance Our Great University. The seven-year (1999-2005) effort is raising private funds to help launch a variety of initiatives across the university, substantially increase the number of UI scholarships and endowed faculty positions, support new educational and research facilities, build the UI's endowment and fund outreach and service programs to benefit Iowans.

The UI Foundation is acknowledged by the UI as a preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. For more information about the Good. Better. Best. Iowa campaign, visit its web site at www.GoodBetterBestIowa.org.
