B100 radiothon benefits patients and families

Posted August 25, 2004

IOWA CITY -- B100 99.7 FM personalities Missy Sullivan and Jeff James reported today that they raised $35,170.14 for Children's Miracle Network during the station's radiothon Aug. 17-20 at NorthPark Mall in Davenport.

Proceeds of the event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics across the state. Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 130,000 clinic visits occur annually at Children's Hospital and Iowa and its statewide network of outreach clinics. About 5,000 children are admitted to the 177-bed Children's Hospital of Iowa each year, including many from eastern Iowa and western Illinois.

"We were just delighted by the kids and families we met," James said. "All of them just couldn't say enough about the care they received at Children's Hospital of Iowa."

"Our listeners are the absolute best anywhere," Sullivan added. "We just can't thank them enough for what they have done to support these children who need our help."

The radiothon was broadcast live from NorthPark Mall in Davenport. The event kicked off at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, and concluded at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20. Sullivan and James shared the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

Children's Miracle Network is an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. One hundred thirty-five radio stations and 200 television stations help solicit donations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since it inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2.2 billion for children's hospitals.
