UI campaign announces progress on student support goal
IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa and The University of Iowa Foundation welcomed more than 200 grateful UI students and generous contributors to the Levitt Center for University Advancement on October 8, 2004, for the fourth annual University of Iowa Scholarship Recognition Luncheon.
The luncheon celebrated UI-wide scholarships made possible through private support. The event allowed students to meet and interact with donors who have created scholarship funds, providing a window into the compassionate, person-to-person philanthropy that is essential to keeping the UI accessible and attractive to deserving students from Iowa and beyond.
Featured speakers at the luncheon included UI President David Skorton; alumni Larry and Jeanette Waters of Iowa City, who have endowed a scholarship through the UI Foundation directed toward students from their hometown of Corning, Iowa; and Lisa Quiroz, a junior pre-business student from Corpus Christi, Texas, and an Opportunity at Iowa scholar.
