Williams appointed Kelting Professor of UI College of Nursing

IOWA CITY -- Janet K. Williams, Ph.D., professor in the University of Iowa College of Nursing, has been appointed the Kelting Professor. The appointment was announced by Melanie C. Dreher, Ph.D., professor and the Kelting Dean of the UI College of Nursing, yesterday at a reception in Williams' honor. Williams is a genetics nurse specialist. Her research, funded by institutional grants and the National Institute of Nursing Research, focuses on behavioral aspects of Turner syndrome, the psychosocial impact of genetic testing and coping with results of pre-symptomatic testing for Huntington disease. She also conducts research on the education of nurses on genetic topics, and she has collaborated on the development of a monograph to educate school nurses on issues for children with specific genetic and growth disorders. Williams is the past president of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, and she is a consultant on numerous national projects to promote education of nurses regarding genetics. The Kelting Professorship was established ibn memory of John Christian Kelting and Catharine Meeder Kelting through a bequest from the estate of the late Lillian S. Kelting of Williamsburg, Iowa. The professorship provides funding to be used for Williams' research and scholarly activities.
