Charitable arm of Rockwell Collins gives $250,000 to UI's Pomerantz Center

IOWA CITY -- University of Iowa students and faculty will benefit from a $250,000 gift from the Rockwell Collins Charitable Corporation to help build the Pomerantz Center, which will house the Executive M.B.A. program and other UI programs.

In recognition of the gift to the UI Foundation, the UI will name a classroom in the Pomerantz Center the Rockwell Collins Executive M.B.A. Classroom.
"This generous gift from Rockwell Collins shows the company's commitment to excellent business and management education and helps ensure that managers and other professionals can continue to learn the skills they need to succeed through our Executive M.B.A. program," said Gary Fethke, dean of the UI Henry B. Tippie College of Business.
"We are grateful for the support of the Rockwell Collins Charitable Corporation as we prepare to offer our students the opportunity to study in the superb new Pomerantz Center."

The Pomerantz Center is named for Marvin A. and Rose Lee Pomerantz of Des Moines, longtime benefactors of the UI who made a $10 million gift commitment to the UI Foundation for the building project.
The 70,000-square-foot facility, under construction at the corner of Market Street and the T. Anne Cleary Walkway on the UI campus, will bring together a number of UI career-related services upon its completion in 2005. It will house the Admission Visitors Center, the Academic Advising Center, M.B.A. Career Services, the Executive M.B.A. Program, the UI Alumni Association's Career Information Network and the Marvin A. and Rose Lee Pomerantz Career Services program.
Rockwell Collins (NYSE: COL) is a world leader in the design, production and support of communications and aviation electronics solutions for government and commercial customers worldwide. The company, which has contributed more than $1.5 million to UI initiatives during more than 35 years of giving, currently employs about 190 UI M.B.A. graduates. The Rockwell Collins gift is part of the UI's $1 billion comprehensive campaign, which will run through 2005 and is being conducted under the guidance of the UI Foundation. Named Good. Better. Best. Iowa: The Campaign to Advance Our Great University, the seven-year effort is raising private funds to help launch a variety of initiatives across the university, substantially increase the number of UI scholarships and endowed faculty positions, support new educational and research facilities, build the UI's endowment and fund outreach and service programs to benefit Iowans.
