Y105 will broadcast Children's Miracle Network radiothon in Dubuque
Posted August 25, 2005
IOWA CITY -- The Y105 FM morning team of Chris and Rachel will broadcast the fourth annual Y105 Radiothon for Kids at Children's Hospital of Iowa from Dubuque's Kennedy Mall daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. beginning Aug. 30 and continuing through Sept. 2.
Chris and Rachel will share the stories of patients, families and Children's Hospital of Iowa staff as they attempt to break their total from last year. The 2004 Y105 radiothon raised more than $75,000 to help make a difference in the hospital experience of children from across the region.
"We meet such wonderful, brave parents and kids through the Children's Miracle Network radiothon," says host Chris Farber. "I am so proud of Y105 and our support of the Children's Hospital of Iowa at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. We work year-round to show our support through various fundraising activities."
The Foresters organization is underwriting the Y105 radiothon. Their assistance helps with program costs, permitting 100 percent of the proceeds of the event to go directly to Children's Hospital of Iowa.
"We serve many Dubuque families in our neonatal intensive care unit, our pediatric intensive care unit, our in-patient units and our specialty clinics. Our role in providing care for these patients stems from our partnership with doctors and nurses in the Dubuque area. We work very closely with the patient's primary provider. If a child needs highly specialized care, we can provide any and all services at the Children's Hospital of Iowa. Once their care is completed, they return home so that almost all of their subsequent needs can be taken care of locally," says Michael Artman, M.D. UI professor and head of pediatrics and physician-in-chief of Children's Hospital of Iowa.
Local schools, businesses and individuals will make check presentations during the four-day event. Radiothon proceeds help create new programs for children and support ongoing research and enhancements to patient stays through services such as pain management and patient education.
