Radiothon benefits families at Children's Hospital of Iowa

IOWA CITY -- The STAR 102.5 KSTZ morning team of Big Ken and Colleen raised more than $157,000 to help children and families cared for at Children's Hospital of Iowa.
The station's radiothon began May 25 and ended Friday, May 27. The Des Moines station originated the marathon broadcast from University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Big Ken and Colleen shared the stories of patients and families cared for at Children's Hospital of Iowa. Donations from listeners will be given to the Children's Miracle Network to help support patients and their families at the Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics.
"We were deeply moved by the stories of the families we met," said "Big Ken" Auge. "They are truly heroes and we are honored to be able to help them."
"I am so proud of our listeners. They really stepped up and opened their hearts to these families," Colleen Kelly said.
Callers pledged $157,242 during the broadcast.
Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City is the state's longest-serving children's hospital. More than 130,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa and its statewide network of outreach clinics each year.
Children's Miracle Network is the nation's largest charitable organization. Funds raised through this and other Children's Miracle Network events are used to support the work of affiliated children's hospitals. Donations are used to enhance the quality of patients' hospital stays, support research and purchase the sophisticated pediatric health care equipment necessary to care for critically ill and injured children.
