IOWA CITY -- The committee charged with conducting a national search for the next University of Iowa Foundation president will include representatives of the UI central administration and the foundation's board of directors, according to Charles M. Kierscht, the foundation's interim president.
Kierscht, who is also chair of the foundation board, will head the eight-member committee, which will include the following UI representatives: President David J. Skorton; Executive Vice President and Provost Michael J. Hogan; and Senior Vice President and Treasurer Douglas K. True, all of Iowa City.
From the foundation's board of directors, search committee members include Ralph H. Congdon, Davenport; Casey D. Mahon, Iowa City; Robert W. Verhille, Solon; and Catherine A. Zaharis, Iowa City.

"As was the case when Darrell Wyrick retired from the foundation presidency seven years ago," Kierscht explained, "we plan to use the services of a professional search firm, and will conduct this effort on a national scale.
"The University of Iowa Foundation is one of the most productive and respected fund-raising organizations in the nation," Kierscht continued. "We believe that leadership of this organization will be highly attractive to qualified individuals from across the country." Kierscht said the committee will begin meeting very soon and he expects the search process to take from six to nine months.
Michael J. New, of Iowa City, who was named UI Foundation president in 1998, stepped down from that post earlier this month due to health reasons. He remains on the foundation staff as chief development officer. Among New's many accomplishments as president has been leadership of the university's $1 billion Good. Better. Best. Iowa campaign, which concludes at the end of 2005 and has raised more than $980 million to date.
The UI acknowledges the UI Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. For more information about the Good. Better. Best. Iowa campaign, visit its web site at www.GoodBetterBestIowa.org.
