Posted September 12, 2005
IOWA CITY -- The Y105 FM morning team of Chris and Rachel raised more than $79,000 during the station's fourth annual Y105 Radiothon for Kids at Children's Hospital of Iowa during their broadcast from the Kennedy Mall in Dubuque last week.
Chris and Rachel shared the stories of patients, families and Children's Hospital of Iowa staff from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily from Aug. 30 through Sept. 2. The 2004 Y105 Radiothon raised more than $75,000 to help make a difference in the hospital experience of children from across the region.
"I am very proud of the efforts of our staff to support children and their families at Children's Hospital of Iowa," said Scott Lindahl, Y105 station manager. "I am also very grateful to our listeners for their continued commitment to Children's Hospital of Iowa."
The Foresters organization underwrote the Y105 radiothon. Their assistance helps with program costs, permitting 100 percent of the proceeds of the event to go directly to Children's Hospital of Iowa.
"The generosity of so many families in the Dubuque area speaks volumes about the high esteem they have for our hospital," said Michael Artman, M.D., University of Iowa professor and head of pediatrics and physician-in-chief at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "We are honored to be able to serve them, and we look forward to continuing to provide them the most advanced, family-centered care available."
Local schools, businesses and individuals made check presentations during the four-day event. Radiothon proceeds help create new programs for children and support ongoing research, enhancements to patient stays through services such as pain management, and patient education.
