KHAK radiothon to benefit Children's Hospital of Iowa

IOWA CITY -- The broadcast team of the Brain and the Bear of KHAK-FM in Cedar Rapids will accept donations from listeners to support Children's Miracle Network during their ninth annual radiothon that they will broadcast live from the main lobby of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City this week. The marathon broadcast began at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13 and continues from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until its conclusion at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16. Proceeds of the 98-hour event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics and its outreach clinics. Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 130,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year. "The highlight of the radiothon is meeting so many great kids and their families," said the Bear. "We do this because we know that we can make a real difference in so many people's lives," added the Brain. The Brain and the Bear will share the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa, and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them. Children's Miracle Network is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children by raising funds and awareness for 170 children's hospitals throughout North America. Children's Miracle Network partners with 135 radio stations and 200 television stations to help support critically ill and injured children. Since its inception in 1983, Children's Miracle Network has raised more than $2.6 billion for children's hospitals.
