Posted August 8, 2006
IOWA CITY -- To kick off the upcoming University of Iowa athletic year, more than 400 I-Club members and fans from Iowa and nationwide met in Iowa City for the 40th annual Golden Harvest event on August 5.
The day-long Golden Harvest program began with golf at the UI's Finkbine Golf Course. The evening concluded with dinner at the Quality Inn and Suites Highlander Conference Center. Gary Dolphin, the Hawkeye play-by-play announcer, emceed the evening program, and Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz was the featured speaker.
The Linn County I-Club was honored as I-Club of the Year. The Dubuque County I-Club and the Siouxland I-Club shared the special commendation award.
Karole Snyder of Davenport, Iowa, was named the I-Club Volunteer of the Year. The Hawk of the Year award was presented to Bob Bowlsby, former director of athletics, at a previous event.
"Throughout the U.S., I-Club members help build enthusiasm and private support for our Hawkeye teams," said Matt Henderson, Executive Director of the National I-Club. "The Golden Harvest event is an opportunity for us to thank these special supporters and recognize their dedication as we prepare for an exciting season of UI athletics."
I-Club members are Hawkeye fans who contribute $50 or more annually to UI intercollegiate athletic programs. More than 11,000 friends and alumni of the University are I-Club members, representing every county in Iowa and every state in the nation.
The I-Club is administered through The University of Iowa Foundation, the preferred channel for private support to the University. Visit www.hawkeyesports.com/iclub for information about becoming a member of the I-Club.
