Lynette L. Marshall, new president of The University of Iowa Foundation, was reared on a fifth-generation family farm in Marshall County, north of Peoria, Illinois. She earned two degrees from the University of Illinois: a B.S. degree in agricultural science from the College of Agriculture, and an M.Ed. in educational policy studies from the College of Education.

She has spent her entire fund-raising career at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, beginning in 1983 as director of resource development for the College of Agriculture. In 1995, she was named associate dean and director of the Office of Advancement in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences, and in 2002 became associate chancellor for corporate and foundation relations. In 2004, she was promoted to associate chancellor for development and vice president of the University of Illinois Foundation.

Her career highlights include directing the $1.5 billion endowment component of the University of Illinois's upcoming $2 billion comprehensive campaign; cultivating and soliciting numerous seven- and eight-figure gifts; leadership of multiple unit campaigns for new facilities and other university priorities; and managing all aspects of a comprehensive development program. She earned her Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation from the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 1992 and is a member of several national fund-raising organizations.

Lynette and her husband, Jeffery Ford, a native of Henderson County in western Illinois, have two children: Michael will be a freshman this fall in computer engineering at the University of Illinois, and Katharine will be a freshman at City High School in Iowa City.

Lynette and Jeffery have enjoyed providing leadership to several community organizations in Champaign-Urbana. Lynette served as president of her local Rotary Club and president of the Wesley Foundation Board of Trustees; Jeffery served as president and later executive director of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, and on the board of the local housing authority and University YMCA.
