WSUI/KSUI fall fund drive set for Oct. 13-20
Posted October 4, 2006
IOWA CITY -- Iowa Public Radio stations WSUI AM 910 and KSUI FM 91.7, listener supported services of the University of Iowa, will hold their annual fall on-air fund drive Oct. 13 through Oct. 20. The weeklong fundraising effort is a time for listeners to call in and pledge their support to the stations.
Iowa Public Radio just wrapped up an ambitious survey project to listen to the voices and communities served by Iowa Public Radio.
"Our recent conversations with Iowa Public Radio listeners confirms the important role public radio plays in listeners' lives," says Cindy Browne, executive director of Iowa Public Radio. "They talked about public radio as a constant companion, a safe harbor for family entertainment, and a trusted source of news and information.
"These listeners support public radio and invite others to do the same, knowing that the health of local stations rests on the support of local listeners," Browne added.
Nancy Hagen, WSUI/KSUI interim director of marketing, said, ""We've heard from listeners who feel we care about what we do in a way that invites listener participation every day, not just twice a year to ask for financial support."
Jim Gulland, a WSUI/KSUI listener and financial supporter from Iowa City, relates his giving experience, saying "I think the first time I donated financially to the station was probably some years after I had been listening. It was a sense of fairness in helping something that I treasure and appreciate so much."
WSUI/KSUI relies on the semi-annual drives to support almost a third of their annual operating budget. Listeners of public radio can pledge during the drive by calling 1-800-AIR-IOWA or 1-800-247-4692 or pledge online anytime at wsui.uiowa.edu, or ksui.uiowa.edu.
The UI Foundation is acknowledged by the UI as a preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. Visit www.uifoundation.org.
