IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Community Credit Union (UICCU) has pledged $52,500 to the University of Iowa Foundation for the establishment of scholarships for UI students.
At UICCU’s direction, 10 annual UICCU Scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, will be awarded to deserving students from UICCU’s service area: the Iowa counties of Benton, Cedar, Iowa, Jasper, Johnson, Keokuk, Linn, Louisa, Mahaska, Marshall, Muscatine, Poweshiek, Tama and Washington. At least three of the scholarships will be awarded to help fulfill the University of Iowa’s commitment to diversity. UI officials praised UICCU for its generosity. “The University of Iowa Community Credit Union has been a valued philanthropic supporter of the University for more than 30 years, and we are thrilled that it has established these scholarships,” said Dave Triplett, vice president for development resources at the UI Foundation. “Thanks to UICCU, Iowa students will now have more opportunities for receiving financial assistance for their UI educations.” Jeff Disterhoft, president and CEO of UICCU, said the scholarships reflect UICCU’s desire to give back to the communities it serves. “We believe that our members are more than simply customers -- they are our friends and neighbors,” Disterhoft said. “We are delighted to create opportunities for Iowa students to study at such an excellent university.” For more information on the UICCU scholarships, visit www.uiccu.org or www.uiowa.edu/financial-aid/scholarships/geographical.html.
