UI Children’s Hospital to Benefit from Sales of New P. Buckley Moss Print

Posted Nov. 1, 2007

A portion of sales of a new P. Buckley Moss print, which depicts the historic Gothic tower of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, will go to the UI Foundation to benefit UI Children’s Hospital.

Photo The new print by Moss, titled “Gothic Tower,” was commissioned by and is available through The Village Shoppe in Kalona, Iowa. Gallery owner Doris Greiner said the opening show for the print will be on Nov. 2, 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Nov. 3, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at her gallery, located at 412 B Ave. in Kalona.

For each $100 print sold from the run of 1,000, $10 will go toward programs at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital, said Michael Artman, M.D., the hospital’s physician-in-chief and head of the pediatrics department in the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine. Of the $10, $5 will come from The Village Shoppe and $5 will be donated by the Moss Portfolio.

“We are so grateful for this wonderful, opportune partnership with P. Buckley Moss and Doris Greiner, two extraordinary and generous women,” Artman said. “The proceeds from the sale of this beautiful print will help our nationally recognized UI Children’s Hospital team to continue delivering the best in pediatric health care to the thousands of children we serve. Those who buy this print as the holidays approach will be making a gift twice over.”

UI Hospitals and Clinics’ iconic Gothic tower, completed in 1928, is still a landmark of the UI campus, and especially of the university’s academic medical center.

In addition to being available at The Village Shoppe in Kalona, Moss’s “Gothic Tower” print can be ordered by calling the gallery at (319) 656-3853, or by e-mailing villshop@kctc.net.

Affected by dyslexia as a schoolgirl, P. Buckley Moss has become a role model for the learning impaired and frequently is asked to speak to special education classes. Donations of her original works and prints to related children's charities have raised millions of dollars for their causes. In 1995 the P. Buckley Moss Foundation for Children's Education was formed to help children with learning disabilities to succeed in school and in life. For more information about P. University of Iowa Children’s Hospital serves children and their families at its main campus in Iowa City and satellite clinics in communities throughout the region.
