UI Foundation announces staff additions, promotions

IOWA CITY -- The University of Iowa Foundation has recently welcomed the addition of several new staff members in the areas of development and development support, and promoted several staff members to new responsibilities.

New staff additions at the UI Foundation include:

Scott Brown, of North Liberty, as assistant director of development for intercollegiate athletics. Brown previously worked at the UI Athletics department as director of premium seating and stadium club operations. He is a graduate of Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and has a master's degree in sports management from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.

Erin Erskine, of Iowa City, as associate vice president of donor relations. Erskine previously worked in university advancement at Georgia State University and Emory University in Atlanta. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and a master of public administration degree from Georgia State University, with an emphasis in nonprofit management.

Eric Hodgson, of Cedar Rapids, as web content manager. Hodgson has previously worked in higher education web development with Stamats in Cedar Rapids and Estrada Content Management, which is headquartered in Birmingham, Ala. He is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa with an emphasis in marketing.

Emily McCarty, of North Liberty, as assistant director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. McCarty previously worked for Limolink, a travel and travel and logistics business in Marion, Iowa; as a graduate assistant in the UI athletics department; and as a game-day assistant for ABC Sports. McCarty holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the UI.

John McClain, of Coralville, as investment manager. McClain previously worked at the Principal Financial Group in Des Moines as a portfolio manager.He earned an M.B.A. degree from Indiana University and a B.B.A. degree in economics from the UI.

Jennifer Smith, of Coralville, as assistant vice president, legal. Smith previously worked as an attorney in the UI Office of the General Counsel and for a law firm in Milwaukee, Wis. She earned her bachelor's degrees in psychology and sociology from the UI, and is a graduate of the UI College of Law.

Sloane Tyler, of North Liberty, as associate director of development for intercollegiate Athletics. Tyler previously worked in fundraising and athletics at Virginia Commonwealth University, Old Dominion University, the University of Northern Iowa and the University of Wisconsin. She is a graduate of Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, and has a graduate degree in education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.

Jane Van Voorhis, of Iowa City, as associate director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Van Voorhis previously worked with the UI Faculty Senate, in outreach and special events for the UI president's office and with the UI Institute for International Business. She received her bachelor's degree from Yale University and her M.B.A. from the Yale School of Management.

The promotions and new assignments include:

  • Floyd Akins, of Iowa City, from executive director of development for the UI Henry B. Tippie College of Business, to assistant vice president, principal gifts
  • Tami Baumann, of Iowa City, from director to executive director of development for the Tippie College of Business
  • Darryl Borcherding, of Cedar Rapids, from director of development-major gifts for the College of Education, to associate director of development for intercollegiate athletics
  • Kevin Collins, of Coralville, from executive director of development for the UI College of Engineering, to associate vice president, health sciences development
  • Tom DePrenger, of Iowa City, from executive director of development for the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics, to assistant vice president, principal gifts, health sciences development
  • Tori Erickson, of Iowa City, from associate director of development to director of development-major gifts for the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine and UI Hospitals and Clinics
  • Matt Henderson, of Iowa City, from director of development for intercollegiate athletics and executive director of the National I-Club, to executive director of development for the UI College of Engineering
  • Bridget Hoffman, of Iowa City, from assistant director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, to director of development for the UI College of Nursing
  • Lori Lasansky, of Iowa City, from associate director to director of information technology
  • Jana Michael, of Iowa City, from director of development for intercollegiate athletics and women's athletic programs, to director of development for the UI Tippie College of Business
  • Charlene Sauer, of Lisbon, Iowa, from associate director of annual giving programs, to director of annual giving programs
  • Dana Simcox, of Coralville, from associate director to director of event services
  • Rod Schultz, of Grinnell, Iowa, from associate director to director of development for the UI College of Law
