Brokaw Returns to UI, Speaks at Presidents Club Assembly
Posted May 7, 2008
IOWA CITY --
Former "NBC Nightly News" anchor and award-winning author Tom Brokaw, who attended
The University of Iowa in 1958-59 and has supported the University philanthropically, revisited the UI campus May 2-3, 2008. Brokaw addressed the annual gathering of the UI's Presidents Club, which recognizes the University's most generous benefactors.
While in Iowa City, Brokaw attended events with his fellow Presidents Club members, visited with UI students at The Daily Iowan and at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and got together with longtime friends.
He also met three of the more recent recipients of the Tom Brokaw Scholarship Fund for American Indian Students, a student scholarship fund he created through the UI Foundation in 2000. Reice Haase (Class of 2011), Malorie Grange (Class of 2013), and Jessica Rank (Class of 2014) met Brokaw at a special reception held for him at the President's Residence at 102 Church Street. Since its creation the Brokaw Scholarship has been awarded to four UI students.
The UI acknowledges the UI Foundation as the preferred channel for private contributions that benefit all areas of the university. For more information about the UI Foundation, visit its web site at www.uiowafoundation.org.
