The Presidents Club:
To Lead and to Serve
These are the twin functions of a great university. Such an institution must forge new paths and continually present new ideas that lead to the advancement of knowledge in all fields. Simultaneously the university must serve, benefiting its students and society by making this knowledge available to the world.
For more than 150 years, The University of Iowa has fulfilled the definition of a great university. And for more than three decades, The Presidents Club has been an essential ally in helping the University achieve its mission.
Founded in 1967, The Presidents Club recognizes the University of Iowa's most generous contributors, those whose philanthropic example helps make possible many of the University's programs and projects. Gifts from Presidents Club members extend educational opportunities to deserving students through scholarships; sponsor research that improves people's lives; and advance in countless other ways the goals of the University and those it serves.
Over the years, The Presidents Club has grown from 38 charter members to nearly 6,000 individuals and organizations from 47 states and nine countries. Cumulative support from Presidents Club members to every area of the University has increased from $2.5 million in its first year to about $1 billion today.
Members of The Presidents Club have heeded the call of a great university -- the call to lead and to serve.
