Qualifications for Membership
An individual may become eligible for membership in The Presidents Club by supporting -- through the UI Foundation -- any area of the University in one of several ways. Or, a person may become a member of The Presidents Club through qualifying support received in his or her honor. Similarly, a deceased person may be named a member in memoriam.
Here's how to qualify for Presidents Club membership:
- Provide an outright gift of at least $40,000 (per membership) in cash, securities, or real or personal property.
-
Pledge to contribute at least $40,000 (per membership) at a rate of not less than $4,000 per year.
- Arrange for a deferred gift of at least $100,000* (per membership) through a bequest, will or living trust, insurance*, charitable trust (including gift annuity), or other deferred-gift arrangement.
- Agree to make a combined gift or pledge of $20,000 (per membership) over a period of up to 10 years and a bequest of at least $60,000*.
Matching gifts from a contributor's employer can multiply a contributor's generosity and may be included as part of an individual's qualifying gift for membership in The Presidents Club (depending on the company's matching gift policies).
* Note: With testamentary provisions such a wills and trusts, the contributor's age (if under 60) will be a factor in determining the amount of deferred gift necessary for membership. A whole life insurance policy can be purchased as the qualifying gift, provided the policy's cash value will be at least $40,000 within 10 years or the premium payment is at least $4,000 annually. (Premium payments should be made directly to the insurance carrier and then confirmed with the UI Foundation.) The Foundation must be both owner and beneficiary. Various combinations of insurance premium payments as well as outright gifts (such as cash and securities) and deferred gifts may be used to qualify for membership. Further guidelines are available from the UI Foundation development staff.

As the Presidents Club's first chair, C. Maxwell Stanley exemplified the dedication of this group and its impact on programs and facilities throughout the University.
At the end of every Presidents Club gathering, he would close his remarks with the challenge, "I urge you to make at least a portion of your support to the UI Foundation unrestricted, to be used by the University wherever it will do the most good. Betty and I always do so."
