What Gifts Have Done in the Past
Gifts to the College of Pharmacy from alumni and friends enable the college to provide scholarships to worthy students, update critical equipment and facilities, help students attend professional conferences and meetings, and more. Here are a few examples of how private giving has helped the students and faculty of the college do their best work:
- Betty "Bets" Zuehlke Voss of Georgetown, Texas, pledged $60,000 to the John D. & Bets Zuehlke Scholarship Fund. Created to honor the wishes of Zuehlke Voss' late husband, John Zuehlke (1957 B.S.P.), the fund awards financial aid to a pharmacy student from Wapello County in Iowa.
- Burton Wahl, a 1927 UI pharmacy graduate, continued his support of the College of Pharmacy by establishing the J. Burton Wahl and Marjorie Wahl Unitrust, which provided $200,000 toward the renovation of Zopf Auditorium in the Pharmacy Building.
- Gordon H. Sheffield (1939 B.S.Ph.) of Sun City, Arizona, established the Gordon H. Sheffield Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance to pharmacy students who demonstrate academic and leadership ability and donate time serving the UI and the community.
- The estate of Thomas D. Hill (1938 B.S.P.) provided $45,000 for the Maher Pharmaceutical Care Laboratory, where pharmacists get hands-on training as drug therapy consultants and evaluators.
These are just a few examples of the generosity that has helped the College of Pharmacy maintain a long and rich history of innovation in pharmacy education, research, and service.
