Reggie Carson '02 Pharmacy Hometown: Baltimore, Maryland |

"I came to Iowa because its programs are so innovative. It's exciting to be learning from the people who are literally setting the national standards for the field. . ." Having practicing pharmacists for parents, it's no surprise that Reggie would be drawn to the field himself. But the fact that he came from Baltimore to the heartland for his pharmacy education speaks volumes about the quality of the UI program. Since coming to Iowa, Reggie has taken advantage of opportunities made possible by private support for the Pharmacy Opportunity Fund and other college initiatives. For instance, he's traveled to national meetings ("People are always impressed when I tell them I'm from Iowa," he says) and he gets to work in the Pharmacy Practice Lab and the other facilities that make Iowa a leader in pharmacy education. Reggie also received an Opportunity at Iowa scholarship through the UI, and the Charles J. Malecek Scholarship through the college. It's all added up to an outstanding education that will take him far. And for that, he's grateful for the college's friends and alumni: "With a wife and small child, every little bit helps. I can't thank the people who gave to the college enough."
