As a student in the College of Pharmacy, Kelly Herbert has taken full advantage of the broad and rigorous program the college offers.
A recipient of the Gordon H. Sheffield Scholarship, the Ronald P. Madden Scholarship, and the Rhodes Dunlap Memorial Scholarship, Kelly has worked in the college's innovative Pharmacy Practice Lab. She's held challenging internships in the community. And she's traveled to conferences, where she's honed her leadership skills and networked with pharmacists and other students. All of these are the types of opportunities that annual private support can make possible.
Kelly is also part of a unique interdisciplinary initiative undertaken by the UI's health sciences colleges. She's the College of Pharmacy's student representative on the board of directors of a mobile clinic that offers a variety of health services to underserved populations in eastern Iowa.
Kelly appreciates the role that private support plays in giving the college the freedom to innovate and create the kinds of opportunities that make UI students stand out among their peers.
And she is very thankful for the help she's personally received -- both from scholarship donors and contributors to the college's unrestricted Pharmacy Opportunity Fund -- as she works toward her degree.
"It's a great feeling that people who don't even know you care enough to help you with your education," she says. "Six years of school is a long time. It's so important to receive some support along the way."
