On July 1, 1999, The University of Iowa founded the College of Public Health -- the first new college established at the University in 50 years -- with the aim of developing a nationally recognized, comprehensive resource for the study and practice of public health. In establishing this college, the University and the state of Iowa signaled their renewed commitment to the fundamental principles of public health: community-based measures to prevent injury and disease and create healthier communities.
